Marc Jacobs and Anna Wintour turned many amused heads at last night’s Great Gatsby premiere, after they turned up wearing identical Prada fur coats.

The skirt-lover and occasional dress-wearer, 50, teamed the women’s coat from Prada’s spring/summer 2013 collection with jeans and sneakers, while Ms Wintour, 63, threw hers over an evening dress.

Teen Vogue’s editor in chief, Amy Astley, snapped a picture of the matching pair on Instagram, writing: ’New York’s finest #annawintour @marcjacobsintl wearing @prada #thegreatgatsby screening. #bestfashionmoment

The fur coat, inset with Andy Warhol’s Pop art daisies in white, ’embraces traditional tropes of femininity and womanhood,’ explained Style.com in its review of the collection.
This isn’t the first time Mr Jacobs has invoked femininity and womanhood in his outfit choices.

The designer famously forewent pants at last year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala, wearing a see-through black lace shirt-dress over glaringly white boxers, paired with pilgrim-buckle shoes from his fall 2012 collection.

He explained to model and red-carpet host for the evening, Elettra Wiedemann: ’I just didn’t want to wear a tuxedo and be boring.’

Paying tribute to Miuccia Prada on that very evening, the designer added: ‘I think Miuccia Prada is such a celebration of the unconventional…. [she] continues to be a hero of mine.’

Fashion friends for more than 25 years, it seemed both Ms Wintour and Mr Jacobs took the surprising double-up lightheartedly.

In Ms Astley’s images, the duo are seen smirking and enveloped in conversation.

‘Great minds think alike. #annawintour @marcjacobsintl wearing @prada tonight #thegreatgatsby screening. Double good!’ she wrote.

SPRING’s nail offerings featured an array of innovative textures and finishes, and Yves Saint Laurent looks set to keep the trend going for summer with its new tri-phase La Laque Couture Tie And Dye top coats.
Rather than creating the tie-dye finish you might expect, the new top coats are designed to be shaken to mix the iridescent particles, colour and high-shine, transparent top coat for a candy-like veil finish. And then, after each use, the three phases in the bottle will return to their distinct layers - like a beauty chemistry experiment, if you will.
Available from May 1 at Selfridges and Brown Thomas, in four shades priced at £18 each.

Karl Lagerfeld is rarely seen without his sunglasses - but the designer was spotted taking off his signature dark shades while out to lunch in Rome recently. He took off his sunglasses so he could better navigate his iPhone, showing off photos of his pet cat Choupette to his friends at his table. The designer recently opened up on his work ethic revealing that he continues to work because he believes he can always do better than his past work:

“I live with the idea that I still can do better. That’s what pushes me to go ahead, for me, everything I did is vaguely OK. I just have to kick my ass to do better. I just have to sleep seven hours. If I don’t sleep enough, I’m ready for the garbage can.”

Karl likes to fit in as much as he can into a day, saying he works as though there are more than 24 hours available in the hopes of getting more done:

“I always have in my mind that there are more hours in the day than 24. But in the end I find out there are only 24 hours, I never take appointments in the morning. I work at home. I sketch and prepare, and the afternoon and evening is for fittings and photography, most of the time I have lunch at home because I’m not very social.”

Spending more time on the beach to celebrate his recent 50th birthday, Marc Jacobs and boyfriend Harry Louis looked as loved up as ever as they hit up the beach for a second day (see the first day here). Happily showing off their toned torsos in tiny swimshorts while Harry donned a backwards baseball cap and sunglasses, the couple looked to be enjoying their romantic Brazilian trip. Harry even took to his twitter account to express how “perfect” the trip had been writing simply: “just the perfect getaway.” The couple were seen sunbathing and strolling along by the water.

The game of designer musical chairs continues today with an announcement that Nicola Formichetti is to part ways with Mugler, and rumors are already swirling that he’s in talks with Diesel to take up a position with them instead. A Mugler director commented on Nicola’s departure from the label:
“Nicola has accomplished our original mission of bringing his energy to the brand, with his talent for communication and understanding modern imagery and design, Nicola has been instrumental in attracting a new audience which is undeniably crucial for the future strategy of the house. He will be a historical part of the Mugler legacy and known as the force that catapulted us forward.”

With Balenciaga’s former creative director Nicolas Ghesquière still out of a job for now, it seems like he might be a perfect fit for the growing Mugler label, after all, his work at Balenciaga proved he can easily conquer the most challenging silhouettes and his work has always had a similarity to that displayed by the Mugler label. Is it just too perfect?

According to recent reports,  Ghesquière is currently working on his own label quietly and is discussing financial backing with several big luxury companies, but if those reports are true, he could still find the time to balance a job at Mugler too. Watch this space for updates!

Balenciaga’s Autumn/Winter 2013 show was definitely the most anticipated of the season. Alexander Wang promised a down-sized show and delivered on that, with just 35 looks to show what his vision for the label would be. All thoughts of Nicolas Ghesquière flew out of the window (he’s now entered designer limbo where Hannah MacGibbon welcomes you with tea and crumpets upon arrival), as Wang’s first look debuted: a black cape style coat with fur shoulders teamed with slim trousers and simple black boots - a few silver and white accents completed the look. And thus, the tone was set.

The entirely monochrome collection dipped lightly into the archives, but with a Wang style twist: subtle sculptural shapes, a splash of print and futuristic cuts all looked strongly modern - but was it refined, or too restrained?
